Pathfinders and Gator Group Walks
Fort Monroe, VA - February 7, 2004

Group walks are a great way to meet members from your club and other clubs too. The Peninsula Pathfinders of Virginia and the Gator Volksmarsch Club are sharing their group walks for another year. In 2004, these two Volkssport clubs will hold monthly 'Group Walks' at their Year Round Events (YRE). This is a wonderful way to meet new and old club members, Those that can not make it to meetings can catch up on club business and also walk your clubs' YRE. Many times the group walks end with lunch at a local restaurant. These two clubs are sharing the trails and the spirit of Volksmarching camaraderie.

Our first pictures are from the Group Walk at Fort Monroe, on February 7, 2004. We had over 30 walkers gather on this late winter day. Pictured to the right is Old Point Comfort Lighthouse.

The walkers gather at the post fitness center and begin registration. You can feel that they are wanting to start this walk.

One more look at Old Point Comfort Lighthouse. It will be listed on the "Lighthouse Program" coming this summer
Just past the lighthouse is some of the damage left form Hurricane Isabelle, this past summer. This is at the foot of the Seawall overlooking "Hampton Roads". The first battle between two iron warships tooks place only a few miles away.

There is a wealth of history here as Pat and Shirley have their picture taken with a man in uniform. The "Casemate Museum" (inner walls of the fort) has a display area depicting a soldiers life here. It is free and well worth time for a visit.

Pat poses with the gun crew at they load a cannon.

We were able to catch up to a few of the walkers and figure out where we were going to have lunch.

SEE YOU ON THE TRAIL!
