On May 24th, 2003 the Peninsula Pathfinders of Virginia boarded a bus in Hampton, VA. These Volksmarchers were on the cutting edge of adventure as this was the first overnight bus trip in the history of this 20-year-old club. Everything was well guided as or "Trip Captain" Diane Berard won't have it any other way. The following is a collection of photos from that trip. It in no way represents all of the things people did, places we went and people we met along the way. It does embody the spirit of our club and the vest for life our members have.
Our first stop on our trip was to Raleigh, NC. We had a pick of Volksmarch YRE (YR437, 597 & 728) to walk that day. This is a place of really nice, old southern charm. (Picture to the RIGHT)

As Cheryl and JoAnn wait for me to take a picture they discuss lunch plans
| The smile tells me that JoAnn like what she is having for dessert. Looks like 'Mud Pie". She will walk that off by the end of the trip.
I think that Cheryl and the statue are looking of walk directions?
| Roccie is just happy to be here.
On May 25th the club arrives at the Biltmore Estate. We received our tickets to get in and as every trip we went everywhere, to see everything. Roccie and Cheryl take a break and get a picture.
| Ron and Diane (our Trip Captain) take a break and get a picture taken, too.
Barb (her back) is checking out the vista and Cheryl does too.
This is just a part of one of the many vistas that can be seen at the Biltmore.
Cheryl finds an ideal pace to look out over the Great Smoky Mountains, in the distance.
| Cheryl checks out the rose gardens.
Pathfinders refuel. Going around the near table, L-R: Bob, JoAnn, Russ and Barb.
| Continuing around the table (at bottom) Barb (again), Diane, Ron, Annette (seated) and Cheryl.
Roccie and Cheryl wonder in the Rose Garden.
| Ron and Diane look at the Belle Portuguese roses in the Rose Garden.

A look at the estate house from the gardens.
| Ron and Diane look at the front lawn.
Pathfinders take a 'non-eating' break.
| Great yard! Just glad I don't have to cut it!
Showing the other half of the front yard.
The line of visitors never seemed to get any shorter, all day long.
The Pathfinders made our way our to the Biltmore Winery and Vindards. Roccie and Cheryl try stomping the grapes.
| A group of Pathfinders sip some wine and enjoy the jazz at the end of a very long day.
We made due when there were not enough tables. We still enjoyed ourselves.
| On May 26th we loaded up the bus headed home. We did stop in Winston-Salem, NC to take part in one last walk. (YR081). This walk took us through the historic West End of Old Salem.
The Pathfinders take to the streets to find more adventures to add to their memories.
| Russ and JoAnn have their picture take at the Moravian village, near the end of the walk.
| Pathfinders board the bus and head for home. Another adventure and many great times to add to our club history. See you on the trail!
